At certain spots around the coast sunken wrecks may be found and explored. An 800 year old Ottoman wreck lies 24m below the surface off the island of Bedir Ada.

Further off shore at Kadirga Point, the sea bed is dotted with broken up amphora to a depth of 30m. Amphora is a type of ceramic vase with two handles and a long neck narrower than the body, which first appeared on the Syrian coast in the 15th century BC and was used until the 7th century AD. It is however an offence to attempt to remove any amphora, even the tiniest of pieces.

There are protected areas where diving is forbidden except by special permit. This is to preserve both the ancient ruins and the sea life. Ince Cape is the farthest diving area and marks the start of one such restricted region.

This is about 45mins out but there are 2 popular areas where diving is allowed; at one location amphora can be seen from the land, at the other there are ceramics as much as 5 metres long.

With sea temperatures ranging from 18 to 25 degrees C through the diving season from April to November this is the ideal location to try this sport.

Diving Schools can be found at Datca or Marmaris. Various diving options will be available, from 4 hour single dive trips morning or afternoon, 2 dive trips with lunch on board, or try a multiday package. All the necessary equipment can be hired on board, or you may use your own. Many boats will also offer the chance to have a video record of your diving experience.
